Acoustics center stage -- at last

The sexiest news of the day is Santiago Calatrava's photogenic architecture for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's $300 million Symphony Center.

Early on in the design process, ASO administrators requested from the acoustics team a 'vineyard'-style orchestra chamber, in which the stage is more or less in the middle of a bowl-shaped room and the audience sits in small clusters all around the musicians.
