Yahoo has acquired Flickr an online photo-sharing service. The acquiring of this service by Yahoo soon after entering the blogging foray is reminiscent of Google acquiring Picasa to enhance its "Blogger" service.

Flickr is a British Columbia based company that allows users to upload digital photos from camera phones and computers to the site. The user can further collect these photos into albums or even post them to blogs on the site.

According to reports Joanna Stevens, spokesperson for Yahoo, confirmed that the online photo-sharing company had indeed been purchased by Yahoo. Flickr's Blog also confirmed the report. However, the company maintains that the online service will continue as it is presently and will not change to 'Yahoo Photos'.

The site promises that current management, will remain and will not be turned into "a bunch of suits". Flickr and Yahoo Photos will continue separately but Yahoo will gain some of Flickr's features.

Also the Flickr blog confirmed that users will not need a Yahoo ID to sign in but existing Yahoo users will be able to access the service.

No financial terms were disclosed.

Yahoo announced its venture into the blogging arena a couple of days back with the introduction of Yahoo 360, which was seen as a response to MSN's 'MSN Spaces' and Google's 'Blogger'.
